Squirrel

I often laugh telling others that I can be found chasing squirrels.

I can be free spirited in a lot of ways, seeking out spontaneous adventures. I have so many ideas stirring in my mind of what to create, paint, bake or fun experiences to have with family and friends.

I have quite the collection of ideas.

I have completed and have seen some of these ideas come to life.

My prayers can be seen in the same way. I’ve seen incredible answers to prayer.

I’m also waiting to hear the answers to several prayers while navigating the journey of what it looks like to be patient and impatient and patient again. There are also those prayers that I have yet to pray because I haven’t quite had the courage to.

As the leaves begin to fall and the landscape slowly fills up with beautiful warm tones, the season of fall is evident and captures your attention in every direction.

Acorns are just one of the treats that several animals enjoy.

You might find squirrels eat a few in the moment but also take the time to bury them in a space for later.

There were a few squirrels or one REALLY overachiever squirrel that decided to collect acorns in the back hatch of my Jeep through a vent opening.

This made for an interesting ride each time I left the house as this collection grew. It sounded like a rain stick every time I turned the corner.

It wasn’t the worst sound ever.

It could even be considered soothing compared to the sibling rivalry that could be heard in the backseat on the regular.

It was also a reminder that I was carrying these acorns that I didn’t need. I had to prepare anyone who was riding with me for the unique drive that they would be experiencing.

The noise can be so loud around us and can distract us from the One who brings peace and comfort. I have to fight this noise daily.

We can easily collect acorns or any other seed but if we don’t ever do anything with them, it’s just a seed. We won’t ever see what it’s capable of.

Quality over quantity will allow you to focus and clearly see God if you are seeking after Him.

“I love those who love me; those who search hard for me will find me.” Proverbs 8:17

My husband was so kind to remove the acorns from the back hatch of my Jeep.

It was anything but a quick fix.

The tire had to be removed, the tire mount had to be removed and the hatch had to be completely removed from the Jeep.

He then had to lean it to one side just right for them to collect in a pile and only then remove them one by one.

There were well over 100.

After thoroughly checking for any left behind, he put everything back together.

The first time I drove the Jeep it was quiet...

...until I heard ONE acorn.

That acorn is still there today. It makes me chuckle and reminds me of being present, here in this moment.

It’s a challenge to actually plant seeds and not hold on to them. Every seed that God has created and used to its full purpose reveals the unexpected.

“Because you have so little faith. I tell you this: if you had even a faint spark of faith, even faith as tiny as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and because of your faith, the mountain would move. If you had just a sliver of faith, you would find nothing impossible.”  Matthew 17:20

The tiny mustard seed referenced in Matthew 17 contains all the nutrients you need to survive. It’s packed with vitamins B1, B6, C, E and K. It’s a source of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, selenium and zinc.

Faith is a lot like that.

I can’t do a whole lot with a collection of seeds, but if I take one at a time and let go and plant it, God can use it for His glory and create something beautifully unexpected.

I can find myself doubting and overthinking so many things, but I have had the opportunity and honor to witness God move in many profound ways. I want to experience more of the unexpected.

Where are you filling your time?

Are you collecting and worrying and not planting?

Are you choosing to focus on what’s right in front of you and trusting that God will provide?

I feel like a hot mess most of the time and I am far from where I need to be but I’m learning each day to lean into the Lord a little more and trust that His timing is perfect and His truth is unwavering.
